Important fix to Notes Import Export Library if you have percent-symbols in column-namesImportant fix to Notes Import Export Library if you have percent-symbols in column-names

Category Import Export Library
Aug 4th, 2020: A new release of Notes Import Library (IEL) has been released, fixing a bug with percent-symbols in field- and column names

If you had an Excel-spreadsheet with column-headers containing percent-symbols (like for example "Whatever %" or "% Complete"), IEL would have problems saving and loading Import- or Export Specification files. If you didn't save specification file, the import- or export, worked as designed.

The symptom of problem with percent-symbols, was that IEL couldn't map the fields properly when you loaded the specification files.

New release of Import Export Library - only a little bugfix this timeNew release of Import Export Library - only a little bugfix this time

Category Import Export Library

January 6th, 2017; Today a new version of Notes Import Export Library was released. Only a little bug has been fixed since the last major version from December 2016. The bug occured during export to Excel if you had a formula field exported without a mapping.

New release of Import Export Library. Now you can update your target Notes documents via key lookup!New release of Import Export Library. Now you can update your target Notes documents via key lookup!

Category Announcement Import Export Library

December 26th, 2016; Today a new release of Notes Import Export Library (IEL) has been released. You can download 1.2.0.4183 from the product page. Besides a lot of small bug fixes and some cool enhancements, the biggest news is the ability to update you existing Notes target documents with a key.

You can simply specify any target field as a key by right-clicking on it and choose Set as key...

image

IEL will enumerate all the views in the target database and then let you choose what view to use as a lookup view during import;

image

This means that IEL for each imported Excel or CSV record, will check if the value in the key-field is found in the lookup-view. If found, IEL will update the existing document instead of creating a new one.

As for formulas, IEL will show you that a field has been designated as a key;

If you combine this new possibility with the ability to save import and export options (as *.vci or *.vce files), you can now pretty quickly have a scenario where you can quickly import - and update - any Excel or CSV file with a predefined option file. Remember, you can simply double-click on the option file to launch it directly witout the need to do any mapping first too.

New Import Export Library release - now support import/export of Comma Separated Files (CSV)New Import Export Library release - now support import/export of Comma Separated Files (CSV)

Category Import Export Library Announcement

September 13th, 2016. Today you can download release 1.2.0.4005 of Notes Import Export Library!

Amongst a bunch of fixes and other enhancements, the biggest news is that IEL now support import and export of Comma Separated Files (CSV) with the same ease and power as for the Excel files.

With simple alternatives you can control both the format of the input file (and yes, IEL can read and write almost anything. Got EBCDIC for System i? No problem. Of course you can use “auto” to let IEL guess the input format for you!).

New Import Export Library release - now with much better format-control on importNew Import Export Library release - now with much better format-control on import

Category Import Export Library

January 17th, 2016 was the date for a new release of Notes Import Export Library. This release has much better control on the import formats when you import from Excel to IBM Notes.

image

Why does this matter? In previous releases IEL did just fine when you imported Excel numbers and dates to different corresponding data types such as numbers and dates in the IBM Notes documents. Note the stress on the target field type in IBM Notes. If you import Excel numbers and dates into Notes number- and date fields, IEL will first and foremost import the raw number or date into Notes, and then Notes will control how you actually display the data with the field’s display properties.

Unfortunately it had some issues when you imported Excel numbers and dates into text fields in IBM Notes. Then IEL didn’t care as much . Then you see that number data was suffixed with many decimals. For example could the number “2” become “2.0000000” when imported into a text field. Why all the decimals?! Because IEL want all the precision it can get when importing the raw numbers Smile

The new release fix this so almost all standard Excel number formats are now imported into Notes text fields according to the locale settings on your computer. In the screen shot above you see for example that the Excel number 0,350000 is imported as 35% according to the Excel percent format. In the screen shot below you see that the Excel account number with currency is imported as such;

image

Note how your locale’s currency is automatically added.

Hopefully this will make you import to Notes text fields less frustrating!

The new release also fixes a couple of bugs, where the most important is found the Preview dialog box as shown above. If you changed target field formulas, the Preview dialog didn’t take into account the formula-changes. Another bug was trapped regarding import from other locales, and where blank columns occurred. Garbage data was the result. Now you have correct, blank, data in Notes Smile

Finally a small enhancement. When you work with saved import or export specification files (vci or vce file types), it was kind of annoying that IEL kept insisting to open the file where you last saved it. It now also store the location from where you open your vci or vce files. Makes it a tad easier to work with more mappings.

Head over to the product page to download the new version.

New version of Import Export Library readyNew version of Import Export Library ready

Category Import Export Library

The Notes Import Export Library (IEL) has been updated with some requested features.

  • You can now double click on any saved import- or export files (file types .vci or .vce respectively) to launch the import- or export job directly. This is nice if you have a persistent job that you want to perform regularly. Note that this version launches the job instantly without pausing. Future versions may have optional parameters so you for example can override input- and output of the job, or see a small description before you start the job.
  • Choose which Excel sheet you want to import from. In previous versions you needed to always have all data in the first sheet. Now you can choose!
    SNAGHTML1a9940d
    The chosen sheet name is also stored in saved job files.
  • Have a lot of fields to map, and tired of manually locating the corresponding fields in the field maps? Now you can easily right click any field name in either field map and choose “Locate similar field”;
    SNAGHTML1ab5401
    This feature will then locate the matching field, either by exact name match or by soundex-similarity. Hopefully this makes it easier to locate fields in huge field lists.

This version also contain several small bug fixes, and now Unicode strings won’t be prematurely chopped off anymore! Happy importing/exporting!
